Hundreds of people lined up outside pot shops in Ann Arbor, Michigan yesterday, the first day of recreational marijuana sales in the state. Three marijuana dispensaries in Ann Arbor (Greenstone Provisions, Exclusive Provisioning Ann Arbor, and Arbors Wellness) were the only ones licensed with local approval to begin recreational sales on December 1, 2019.

Michigan voters approved the legalization of recreational marijuana in the November 2018 election. Since then, 80% of the state’s local municipalities have opted out of recreational sales. Others are temporarily delaying adult-use sales, including the city of Detroit, which will not start until at least February of 2020.

Although only three pot shops were open for the first official day, many more will be beginning recreational cannabis sales over the coming months as they get licensing from the state and local approval. The Michigan Recreational Pot Shops Directory will be updated as more dispensaries in the state begin adult-use sales.
