Advice for weed smokers visiting Las Vegas

Where should I stay in Las Vegas so I can smoke recreational weed?

I’ve been traveling to Las Vegas for work and pleasure several times a year for many years now. Because I’m in the cannabis industry and I’m known as a frequent cannabis user, people often ask me where I stay when I’m in Vegas. I thought I’d write this post in order to answer your questions about legal marijuana and finding a place to stay in Vegas.

Personally, I always stay at a casino when I’m there. For one, I like to gamble, but secondly, most of the events and meetings I attend are at or near the casinos. Not to mention, all of the entertainment and dining options available, I always stay at a casino. When I’m there for work or vacation, I like to have a good time. Although I do drink occasionally, I’m more of a weed smoker. So I need to have a hotel room where I can privately smoke.

With the steady decline of tobacco use in the US over the last few decades, even Las Vegas has decreased their supply of hotel smoking rooms. But there are still plenty of options available if you know where to go. In fact, compared to most cities where the only smoking rooms you’ll find anymore are at budget motels, some of the best casino hotels on The Strip have accommodations for guests who smoke.

Which Vegas casinos have smoking rooms or private balconies?

This list below shows the Las Vegas casinos that offer smoking rooms. These selections clearly show smoking rooms (or private balcony) in their hotel.com room classification descriptions. If you don’t see “smoking” in any of the room names, it means smoking rooms are sold out for your selected dates. There are other casino hotels that have smoking rooms, but they list it as merely a “preference”, which means they reserve the right to switch it on you if they run out. We don’t want that. The ones I’ve listed designate “smoking” as the room classification and if they sell out of those rooms, they won’t show them as available. Where can I buy weed near the Las Vegas Strip?

Wherever you are in Las Vegas, you’re probably not far from a recreational dispensary. There is one located on The Strip and many more in close proximity. Are Las Vegas casinos 420-friendly?

Las Vegas casinos are 420-tolerant and they have been for decades. Let’s face it, the casinos have always have been tolerant of a lot of things, as long as no one gets hurt and they keep the place packed with gamblers and tourists from all over the world. Vegas casinos are some of the few places in the U.S. that have no cutoff time for alcohol sales and let you smoke cigarettes almost anywhere. So yeah, they are marijuana-tolerant.

But while they are fully tolerant of cannabis use by their guests, they can’t be publicly 420-friendly. When Nevada legalized marijuana for all adults over the age of 21 in 2017, the casino industry had to address the new reality. Because even though marijuana is now legal in the state of Nevada, it’s not yet legal on the federal level. The most important aspect of their businesses, gambling, is tightly regulated by federal banking and gaming laws.

In order to make it completely clear to federal authorities that they don’t do anything that violates federal law, the casino industry leaders collectively agreed they would not openly embrace the cannabis industry. They decided they would not host cannabis industry events, not market specifically to cannabis users, and do everything they can to distance themselves from the marijuana industry until it becomes legal at a federal level. But that’s only for their business relationships with the cannabis industry. This doesn’t affect you, the cannabis user, visiting their casinos.

The casinos know a large number of their guests are stopping by the pot shop a few blocks away. You will quickly find out you’re in like-minded company if you book a smoking room in a Vegas casino. You’ll know as soon as the elevator doors open on the smoking rooms floor, as you smell the familiar aroma. It’s obvious that weed is being smoked in at least half of the rooms on the smoking floors.

Can I smoke marijuana on a Las Vegas casino floor?

For a cigarette smoker, Las Vegas is an oasis in a land increasingly hostile to tobacco use. You can smoke cigarettes in most Vegas casinos, including their bars, and many still have smoking hotel rooms. Of course, being a “smoker” can now also mean “cannabis smoker”, so let’s be clear that there is a big difference.

Just because you can smoke a cigarette in the casino, that doesn’t translate to marijuana. Yes, weed is legal in Las Vegas, but the laws of consumption are the same as in all legalized states. No, you can’t smoke weed while sitting at a blackjack table or slot machine. Cannabis smoking is restricted to being done in private (your room). And remember, there are cameras everywhere on the casino floor. You’re better off not breaking these rules. If you’re caught doing it on the casino floor, they will ask you to leave.

Please be discreet and respectful with your legal weed smoking. Just because it’s legalized, it doesn’t mean you can do it anywhere. There are plenty of people who don’t appreciate it the way you do. Keep that in mind and you’ll have a great time in Las Vegas.
