Back in May of this year, the Las Vegas city council voted to allow pot lounges in the city. But pressure from casinos, fearing competition for tourist dollars, prompted Nevada state lawmakers to enact a law that placed a hold on such lounges until at least 2021. That law overrides the one passed by the city of Las Vegas.
The NuWu Cannabis Marketplace is located about two blocks from the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. But because the dispensary is located on tribal land, it is regulated (and owned) by the Las Vegas Pauite Tribe. It is not subject to the state’s pot lounge moratorium.
On October 5, NuWu tasting room opened for business, becoming the first public pot lounge in the state. According to their website, you can select items from their menu and will able to try a sample “flight” before you make a decision on your purchase. They describe the experience as a “one of a kind experience” and “a place where you can socialize with other cannabis connoisseurs from all around the world.”
Benny Tso, one of the tribal members who runs the store said, “[We’re] opening this up to where you can taste some products before you purchase them, and to know what it’s about, and to educate you on it. You get a pallet and have serving sizes, enough to where you can taste the product, the effect and get an idea of what the product has in store for you.”
Last year, NuWu became the first recreational pot shop to offer drive-thru service in Nevada.
