Kouchlock Productions will be the first recreational marijuana store in Washington state. Owner Scott O’Neil will open his doors on July 1, over a year and a half since voters made recreational pot legal in the state.

Washington voters passed legal recreational marijuana in the November of 2012 election, the same election year that voters in Colorado did the same. But while Colorado has had recreational pot shops open since January 1, it has taken until now for Washington’s Liquor Control Board to finally give the green light to the first store.

But, many will likely be disappointed in the amounts they are able to buy and the prices they will have to pay to be a part of history.


Recreational Marijuana is Now Legal in America's Capital

Washington, D.C. has Legalized Recreational Marijuana.

As of 12:01 AM today, recreational marijuana is legal in the capital city of the United States of America. Voters approved the law, Initiative 71, in November 2014 with 70% support. The law legalizes the possession and private use of cannabis, but does not legalize public consumption. It also does not allow for the sale of recreational marijuana, which has been legal in Colorado and Washington state for over a year.

What is in Washington D.C.’s Legal Marijuana Law?:

  • Allows possession of up to two ounces of marijuana for adults 21 and older.
  • Allows possession of up to six pot plants.
  • Allows consumption of marijuana on private property.
  • Allows people to give another person 21 or older up to 1 ounce of pot.
  • Allows the use or sale of paraphernalia for the use, growing, or processing of marijuana or cannabis.
  • Does not allow sales of marijuana.
  • Does not allow public consumption of marijuana.



Oregon Legalizes Recreational Marijuana - Celebrations in Portland

As of midnight, July 1 recreational use of marijuana is legal in Oregon. The first state to decriminalize marijuana in 1973, Oregon now joins Colorado, Washington, Alaska, and Washington D.C. as the only states with legal recreational cannabis.

2016 Colorado Cannabis Cup Dates Changed to April 22-24

Permit problems in Pueblo forced a change of dates for the 2016 Cannabis Cup.

Earlier in February, High Times was denied a permit to hold the 2016 Cannabis Cup at Denver Mart. This forced them to look elsewhere to hold the event that was attended by upwards of 100,000 people over three days last year.

denver-cannabis-cupHigh Times then announced the Cannabis Cup would be moving about 120 miles south, to Pueblo, Colorado on April 15-17. But due to permit application rules in Pueblo that require the application to be filed at least 75 days before an event, High Times now has to move the event back one weekend, to April 22-24. (more…)
